Helping You Help Patients
Take Back Control Over Tinnitus
Neuromonics Treatment Process
The Neuromonics Tinnitus Treatment process allows you and your patients to take control over tinnitus – instead of experiencing frustration and a lack of control. The six-month treatment process requires close counseling and guidance, with the professional and patient working together throughout the process.
How it Works
A small, lightweight Oasis™ device with headphones delivers precisely designed music embedded with a pleasant acoustic neural stimulus. This stimulus, customized for each user’s audiological profile, stimulates the auditory pathways to promote neural plastic changes. Over time, these changes help the brain to filter out the tinnitus perception from consious attention and reduce the associated tinnitus disturbance, providing long-term relief from symptoms.
Six-Month Treatment Process
The Neuromonics treatment occurs over approximately 6 months, with many patients reporting some relief immediately, based on our clinical trials and "real world" private practice experience. Throughout the treatment process, you – combined with any assistance you require from Neuromonics – provide education and support.
Personal Assessment & Fitting
Before any treatment begins, you will assess each patient’s tinnitus and hearing levels. Then, develop an audiological profile, which will help you determine which treatment options are most appropriate your patient, and whether the Neuromonics treatment can help.
If you and your patient both agree that Neuromonics can help, you or your staff will ensure the Oasis™ device and earphones are fitted comfortably with the patient.
The device delivers a precisely-designed acoustic stimulus that incorporates relaxing music and is used at a low listening level. The stimulus is customized to patients’ individual prescription, based on their audiological profiles.
Once these actions are accomplished, treatment can begin.
Stage 1: Relieving the Symptoms
This stage helps relieve symptoms, allowing some patients to begin to experience control over their tinnitus while continuing treatment. Patients wear the Oasis device for at least two hours per day (or longer, if preferred) during daily activities like reading, preparing meals or at the office.
This stage typically lasts about 2 months.
Stage 2: Breaking the Cycle
The goal of stage 2 is to help the process of neuroplastic change within each patient’s brain in order to develop those neural connections that allow it to filter out tinnitus sounds from their conscious attention and to reduce the associated disturbance. As this happens, patients find they become progressively less aware of their tinnitus and less disturbed by it between listening sessions and relief continues even without regular use of the Oasis device.
In this stage, the device is used for at least 2 hours per day initially. Treatment times are then gradually reduced as tinnitus disturbance lessens. This stage of treatment typically lasts about 4 months.
Maintenance
After a successful treatment program, you will work with patients to develop a maintenance program they can use to continue to control the tinnitus on their own.
Many people do not feel the need to use the device after treatment. Those who do typically use it for short periods of time to help them maintain the benefits achieved.
